Between New York-based SCREEN and Beijing-based I: project space, a group of young artists in New York, Berlin and Beijing will respond with images and links to a questionnaire on their living and working conditions. This survey will be published on SCREEN’s website and I: project space’s Wechat channel. The season will then culminate in a three-city screening series curated around the theme of stories of survival.

SCREEN is a New York-based curatorial collective and media art platform that fosters critical voices and new forms of exhibition for media-based practices.

I: project space is a Beijing-based platform for international art discourse and exchange, which also hosts a residency program.

Wu Ding is a visual artist living and working in Shanghai. His work explores the practice of still and moving images. He uses text, image, and video as his principal creative mediums. His recent work concentrates on the perceptible, but ineffable “inner order” hidden in time and space. Through the selection of objects laden with symbolism, he aspires to create an experience of estrangement between a physical object and its linguistic signifier. He hopes experiencing his work will make viewers aware of the material essence of the world. His ideas about the aesthetics of order and relations among objects and physical matter in the universe are inspired by Pythagoreanism and Kantian philosophy.

Wu Ding holds a BFA in sculpture from the Shanghai Normal University. He has participated in exhibitions at the CAFA Art Museum and Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, among others.
